In <\/span>April\u00a0 2014<\/span>, the Government of the Brussels<\/span>-Capital Region approved the\u00a0new<\/span> Operational Programme<\/span><\/span><\/a> for<\/span> the implementation<\/span> of the European<\/span> Regional Development Fund<\/span> (ERDF)<\/span> for the<\/span> 2014-2020 programming period. The sustainable food sector is one of the\u00a05 priority sectors specifically identified to be funded and developed.<\/span><\/p>\n

The programme stresses: “Developing agriculture<\/span> and sustainable food<\/span> in Brussels<\/span> would create<\/span> tens of<\/span> thousands of jobs,<\/span> according to a study<\/span> by the faculties<\/span> St. Louis<\/span> and<\/span> Greenloop<\/span>. An axis of the<\/span> Employment-Environment Alliance<\/span> is<\/span> dedicated to linking <\/span>projects related to the<\/span> implementation<\/span> of urban<\/span> and peri-<\/span>urban agriculture<\/span>, organization of short<\/span> circuits\u00a0[…]<\/span> The objective<\/span> is to<\/span> promote the development of<\/span> this <\/span>sector,<\/span> considering the different<\/span> stages of<\/span>
\nchain –<\/span> from experimentation<\/span>, training, production, sale and catering<\/span>. In<\/span> this context,<\/span> catering <\/span>projects that contribute<\/span> to the development<\/span> of the industry<\/span> can<\/span> also be seen as<\/span> helping to strengthen<\/span> this sector<\/span> – noting<\/span> also<\/span> that<\/span> the catering industry<\/span> is a<\/span> historically<\/span> important area<\/span> in the capital and<\/span> generates a lot of jobs\u00a0requiring little qualification.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

More than 160 projects responded in July to the 1st call for projects and now await selection by early 2015, of which many are related to food –\u00a0production, transformation and retail,\u00a0centres of\u00a0excellence,\u00a0support to SME creation and development, foster links between stakeholders and\u00a0towards universities…<\/p>\n
