The neighbourhood, a former harbour, has been constructed as a living lab for smart and sustainable innovations. The city is well known for including design in all its governance processes since it was chosen as the World Design Capital in 2012. In a close collaboration with the startup Flextila,<em>Flexi Space&nbsp;<\/em>was developed, a service that allows people to find and use spaces for a wide range of activities. Once a space is booked through the online service, users get access through a self-service mechanism involving a smart lock. There is great potential in expanding the service, allowing people to book not only temporary locations, but also spaces in other city-owned locations such as schools and libraries, as well as privately owned spaces in residential or office buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>REFILL the city&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>REFILL the city is an URBACT Action Planning network of partnering cities including Amersfoort, Athens, Bremen, Cluj, Ghent (lead partner), Helsinki, Nantes, Ostrava, Poznan and Riga.
