POC Englos / Lille Food Experience – LiFE
R&D supermarket
Centre of excellence for food
The project combines the dynamics and potential of the offshore site Englos, on the outskirts of Lille, and is part of the area’s strategic changes: the west entrance of Lille Metropolis is a strategic zone within which several development projects are taking place, including the Euralimentairecentre of excellence, but also the transformation of an existing shopping centre for the general public, the urbanisation of land reserves in the east and south, the development of an urban farm on the outskirts of the fort Ennetières en Weppes, new housings and the improvement of transport, road and collective infrastructures.
Inventing tomorrow’s food?
Public and private stakeholders, accompanied by piKs, specialised in collaborative design processes, have built a shared or “confluence” approach, which has led to highlight LiFE’s concept for Lille Food Experience. The aim is to build an ecosystem around food and well-being for the future city, linking the Euralimentaireresearch and development centre, Lomme’s National Wholesale Interest Market, to the development of an urban farm, via the development of a Gourmet Hallwithin the existing Englos shopping centre. This approach is centred on the aspirations and potential of the community, the citizens, and more broadly, of the territory’s stakeholders. It feeds all stakeholders with forward-looking content and projects, relevant to innovation in terms of food experience.
