Gothenburg and its surroundings need to find different, new and sustainable ways to use nature nearby and close. The Northeastern parts of Gothenburg (Nordost) can become one of these predecessors. How can the town close rural and city resources and needs be reconciled? How can we create a more beautiful city with more living environments, new green jobs and businesses?

Results

A pilot study has been done in the Northeastern parts of Gothenburg (Nordost).

The pilot study Stadslandet has to find out if they can and want to help develop northeastern Gothenburg to a green neighborhood where rural and urban areas  are combined. In many large cities, it becomes more common with local production of food. Connect “green business” with new businesses, leading to integration and socially sustainable development.

Benefits

Knowledge and social exchange, increasing possibilities for employment, encourage local production, incubators. The pilot study wants to investigate if different ways can cultivate natural resources and how to create jobs, business development and growth in new forms of interaction between urban and peri-urban rural.

Northeastern Gothenburg could become pioneers in finding new ways to enhance the quality of life, meaning, belonging and pride for a green and socially sustainable development.

Pro and Contra

Pro: creates new employment possibilities, connect people, people with different ethnical background have a great and long experience that we can learn from. Northeast Gothenburg and Stadslandet Gothenburg wants to create a new type of occupation. New forms of businesses which leads to integration. Connect suburbs with the inner city. Grow and deliver local produced food to restaurants in the city/town.

Contra:  Many great ideas, but it will take some years to implement, it is not so easy to reach the population, how do you start a business? How do you manage to make green businesses and succeed? Remain sustainbable and stay in the suburbs on a long term basis. How do we make this sustainable over time.

What are the lessons learn to be used/transferred/implemented in the other partner cities?

See above, similar questions, it is still a pilot study, we haven´t actually learnt the lessons yet.

How do you make this successful without too much administration, and complexity?
